New Kids on the Block celebrate legacy of boy bands with ‘The Boys in the Band’ video

The members on New Kids on the Block are marking the 30th anniversary of their debut album with a brand new music video.

With the re-issue of their hit record Hangin’ Tough approaching, the group went back to school to revisit their early years as teens idols for the brand new track “The Boys in the Band (The Boy Band Anthem).” Warning, it’s an earworm.

In the video, members Donnie Wahlberg, Joey McIntyre, Jonathan Knight, Jordan Knight, and Danny Wood visit a high school — where they give a lively lesson on the legacy of boy bands to a new generation. Helping out along the way are back in the day pop stars Lance Bass, Naughty By Nature, Debbie Gibson, and Bell Biv Devoe of New Edition.

“I wrote the lyrics to the song as a homage to boy bands, but you can’t truly pay tribute to boy bands, visually, without a little self-deprecating humor,” Wahlberg says of the John Ashner directed video in a press release. “Nobody has thicker skin than boy band members.”

NKOTB is also gearing up to hit the road this summer for The MixTape Tour, featuring ’90s stars Salt-N-Pepa, Naughty By Nature, Debbie Gibson, and Tiffany.

The special edition of Hangin’ Tough will be released on March 8.
