Christopher Meloni threatens a stuffed rabbit in Happy! season 2 BTS clip

How tricky is it to create the titular, Patton Oswalt-voiced animated horse Happy on the fantastical crime-comedy SYFY show which bears its name?

“I don’t think a piece of character animation this complex has ever been done before on a weekly basis, for television — it just hasn’t,” says Happy! director and executive producer Brian Taylor in a just-released behind-the-scenes clip about the show. “To have that kind of performance animation coming in every week on the show is really inspiring. [He’s] the title character, and if he’s not alive, if he doesn’t have personality, if he isn’t a fully-fledged, fully-alive character, the show sort of dies.”

Season 2 begins with Easter on the horizon and Christopher Meloni‘s newly sober-ish ex-cop Nick Sax is struggling with the demands of family and fatherhood. He has sworn to do right by his ex-wife, Amanda (Medina Senghore), and his daughter, Hailey (Bryce Lorenzo), which means no booze, sex, drugs, or killing. Happy, meanwhile, is resigned to keeping his partner on the straight and narrow while coping with the fact that a maturing Hailey can no longer see him. Sax’s fresh start will be tested by a familiar enemy: Sonny Shine (Christopher Fitzgerald), who is on a mission to Make Easter Great Again (MEGA) with the help of his demented Easter Bunny henchman. Season 2 cast additions include Ann-Margret (Bebe Debarge) and “Weird Al” Yankovic.

Season 2 of Happy! premieres March 27. Exclusively watch that clip, above.
